J ared Ewart, the operations manager at Allied Roofng Company, has extra incentive to keep his customers happy. One of his clients owns more than 50 buildings in the Southern California area, and Ewart has been called on to install new roof systems on each one! At three to four buildings a year, that means steady business from this client for a long time. For this particular job, Allied Roofng was re-roofng an ofce building in Cerritos, Calif., for a client that wishes to remain unnamed. Te building had a 14,700-square-foot (1,366 m 2) roof, which his crew of six covered with a white elastomeric roof coating system from Polyglass U.S.A. Te existing substrate was an aging built-up roof (BUR) cap sheet roof system that was in bad condition, Ewart said. "Te 58 JANUARY 2014 COATINGSPROMAG.COM roof had a lot of issues, a lot of holes that were causing water intrusion," he explained. "A lot of that stuf is not necessarily noticeable when you do your roof repairs." It became noticeable pretty quickly, though, when Ewart's crew started power-washing the roof. "When we started power washing, we had leaks, and spots continued to leak through as we tried to wash," he said. "So we had to change up our tactic to make sure it didn't continue to leak. We walked around, found any holes, cracks, or places where nails were popping through and put a temporary seal on it to make sure it didn't leak." Te crew used Polyglass Polybond APP for all roof repairs and roof drain reinforcement. With that challenge resolved, the team was ready to get to work.
