As for the customs and baggage inspection areas, once Spectrum's paperwork was approved, the 15-person crew made up for lost time. This floor featured a clear sand and colored epoxy for a more industrial look. Navigating Stormy Seas Te Spectrum crew fought hard not to founder on this project. A paperwork delay kept them from getting underway on time, and a road opening nearly marooned their equipment, but the crew showed they could navigate even these stormy seas. "We are very proud we were able to overcome the pitfalls and keep on target," said Clemente. "We feel we gave the city a very good job. Te foor looks great. It's a smoke blue; it brightens up the building and is going to last them a long time." Along with most businesses in the region, New Jersey-based Gillespie sufered when Superstorm Sandy struck. But instead of simply licking their wounds during the weeks immediately following hurricane impact, Te Gillespie Group, under the guidance of owner Bob Gillespie, made generous donations of time, money, and materials to help his community get back on its feet. So in a big way, the Gillespie crew took the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal project personally. "Tis job had a special place in the hearts of each member of our team," Clauberg said. "You could see from the craftsmanship and extra efort applied that it was all about doing the right thing for all the people who make their livelihood from the cruise terminal." Dur-A-Flex feels proud for their part in bailing out this important Brooklyn economic engine. "We've done a lot of public landmarks in the New York metro area, such as the Statue of Liberty and New York Stock Exchange, but we consider this a huge accomplishment on many levels," said Leiser. "I think back to last October when Sandy hit. Te whole territory was devastated. Some installers lost everything. November was a lost month. But one thing about the New York metro area, we've been through a lot in the past 15 years. Tese two coatings crews really tackled an important project." It's amazing how these two crews of coatings professionals, in response to a regional catastrophe like Superstorm Sandy, put their hearts and souls into their jobs to help reopen the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
