and his team called Roger Clark 's team back to the jobsite. Before the welding crew could get to work, though, a scafold- ing system needed to be constructed. According to Long, Safway Services, LLC, was contracted to build the multi-point, suspended stage scafolding system. "Once all of the work on the interior of the tank was complete, Safway came back and removed the scafolding system," said Long. With the scafolding built and the structural steel repairs made, the TIC crew was able to get back to abrasive blasting the tank 's interior using Schmidt eight-ton (7 metric tons) blast pots and garnet media and dust collectors. With the exception of the tank foor, which was blasted and then primed, the crew completed abrasive blasting on all other interior surfaces before moving on to the application of the three-coat Tnemec system. Potable Water Storage = Specialized Coatings Anytime a coatings contractor is working on a job that deals with potable water, the protective barrier applied to the surface coming into contact with the water — in this case the tank interior — must comply with National Science Foundation (NSF)/American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard 61.
