42 JULY 2015 COATINGSPROMAG.COM BY JENNIFER FRAKES PHOTOS COURTESY ANGELUS WATERPROOFING & RESTORATION, INC. pplying coatings on a 23-story high-rise is a daunting task in and of itself, but add in strict air quality regulations, a tight timeline, and a fully occupied build- ing, and the challenges become even greater. Tat's the situation that Angelus Waterproofng & Restoration, Inc. was faced with recently. Harbor Place Tower, a high-end, waterfront high-rise condominium complex located in Long Beach, Calif., is located on Ocean Boulevard and is the iconic back-drop for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, a weekend of Indy car racing through the streets of the city. Built in 1991, Harbor Place Tower is known for its beautiful façade; however, over the years, the building began to show its age. According to Stephan Claus, president of Angelus Waterproofng, the exterior was beginning to look old and dingy. "In addition, many of the walls and windows were experi- encing leaks. Te Harbor Place Tower Home Owners Association wanted to solve both problems at once — stop the leaks and waterproof the building and update the appearance with an environmentally friendly coating system," stated Claus. Te home owners association hired Van Dijk and Associates, a waterproofng consulting frm, to develop the specifcations. Once the specifcations were determined, PCW Contracting services, a general contractor specializing in working with homeowners' associations and reconstruction work, was awarded the job. Angelus Waterproofng was then hired as the primary subcontractor to perform sealant and waterproofng work. As stated by Claus, there was also a third- party consultant, James West Consulting, who was brought on board to oversee quality control during the project. Tere were a lot of drivers on this one!
