Te BASF site in Southfeld, Mich., hosted a grand opening ceremony for a new technical laboratory for its customers in the coatings and plastics industries. Te newly refurbished 32,000-square-foot (2,972.9 m²) building represents an investment of approxi- mately $20 million and can accommodate up to 50 people engaged in research, development, and technical service to serve customers and encourage collab- oration. "Te laboratory is a signifcant investment in BASF's operations in Michigan, allowing continued job growth and supporting customer satisfaction at the Southfeld campus," said Greg Pfum, vice president and general manager of the BASF Mid-West Hub. "Tis important endeavor increases the diversity of BASF groups working in Southfeld. We thank our employees and contractors who safely constructed the project over the last 14 months." Te state-of-the-art laboratory will support the formulation needs for pigments, resins, performance, and formulation additives that are used in transportation, industrial, furniture and foor coatings, and plastics applications. Honeywell's winning entry, selected from among three fnal- ists, was announced during the closing session of the 2015 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in Orlando. More than 1,000 polyurethanes professionals attended the conference. Honeywell's Solstice LBA is a special formulation designed to signifcantly lower global warming potential (GWP) and improve energy efciency while retaining non-ozone-depleting characteristics. Honeywell's Solstice LBA is a polyure- thane foam-blowing agent used in insulation applications, including in appliances and spray foam, enabling the attainment of higher energy standards.
