You can also send a DMC A Takedown Notice to the OSP requesting that they remove or block the offending pages from the suspect website. ere is no set format for the Takedown Notice, but it must include the following pieces of information: • Your signature (assuming you're the website/copyright holder or you're authorized to act for the holder); • Identification of the material that is infringing and enough informa- tion to allow the OSP to locate the material (e.g., a URL to the offend- ing page); • Ways for the OSP to contact you (e.g. an address, phone number, and an email); • A statement that you have "a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law"; • A statement that "the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed." 3. Consider Copyright Registration. Copyright is a form of protection given to authors of original works, including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and other intellectual works. A copyright automatically comes into existence the moment an author fixes work in a tangible form. This protection gives the owner of a copyright several exclusive rights: • to reproduce the work; • to prepare derivative works (works that adapt the original work); • to perform or display the work publicly; • to distribute copies of the work to the public by sale, rent, or lease. You've probably noticed phrases such as "A ll R ights Reser ved " or "Copyright 2016," or perhaps you've seen the copyright sy mbol and a date at the bottom of a website. W hat does this mean? Do you need to copyright your website? Registering a copyright with the United States Copyright Office is not mandatory.
