46 SEPTEMBER 2016 COATINGSPROMAG.COM Using mostly diamond hand grinders — DeWalt's D28474 — they got the small areas of the concrete to a profile of 36-grit sandpaper. ey were sure to add ear plugs and 3M dust masks to their personal protective equipment (PPE) for that stage. For BASF's coating system, they first taped off any drains to avoid clogging issues. ey used painters tape to create a clean line at the edge of the room, too. en, once the coating was mixed, the installers got to work. e hand rollers wore knee pads and used 5-quart (1.25 gal.) buckets to get in and out of the areas easily. ey covered the coving and around any drains. e guys with stand-up rollers wore spiked shoe covers and spread out across all horizontal surfaces. Each crew member had a role in the success of the three-coat system from BASF, including mixing and applying the materials, starting with the MasterTop SRS 41P primer at 5–6 mils (127.0–152.4 microns). The immediate coat was MasterTop SRS 61BC, which was troweled on at 80–90 mils (2,032.0–2,286.0 microns). Into that, the crew broadcast white, gray, and blue chips to rejection.
