I enjoyed the article about the Robert Opie Norris Bridge (CoatingsPro, May 2012). But what happens with the peregrine falcons? Aren't they endangered? Here in California, the jobsite would be shut down. In fact, the bridge would probably be shut down, and the birds would be allowed to take it over. Evan Alexander Via e-mail
Editor's Note: Your concern prompted a quick Internet search. According to an article published by Rick Steelhammer in the Charleston Gazette ("Perfectly Peregrine," 5/28/11), the falcon chicks were relocated to a clif f along the rim of the New River Gorge National River as part of a Nat ional Park Service peregrine falcon restoration program. More good news? Peregr ine falcons have been off the endangered species list since 1999.
