ABOVE Carboline's product data sheet. That meant the Blastco crew could achieve total coating thickness of 12 to 18 mils (304.8 microns to 457.2 microns) DFT in three passes without waiting around. Hey, nobody likes to watch paint dry! To seal gaps in roof-plate overlaps and other exposed seams, the Blastco crew used caulking guns and glazer putty knives to apply Sikaf lex, a polyurethane caulk suitable for potable water immersion service. Meanwhile, outside, a FasterBlaster remote-controlled blast- ing robot peppered the tank walls with a steel shot and grit mixture to bring the surface to NACE No. 3/SSPC-SP6 Commercial Blast Cleaning standards with a 2.5-mil (63.5 microns) anchor profile. A vacuum system connected to the FasterBlaster prevented dust from spreading to nearby neighborhoods and allowed coatings crews to work from swing stages to apply coatings without fear that airborne contaminants would ruin their work. The Blastco crew used their Graco Xtremes with #419 tips to lay down a 2- to 3-mil (50.8 microns to 76.2 microns) DFT layer of Carbozinc 11 solvent-based inorganic zinc primer on the tank top and walls. Zinc 11 is readied by power mixing the base and slowly adding the zinc filler while continuously agitating. Following Carboline's product data sheet, the crew then mixed kits of Carboguard 893 (1:1 ratio, A to B) intermediate coat by stirring separately, combining, and power mixing. After waiting an average of 16 to 24 hours for the Zinc 11's minimum dry-to-recoat window, the crew then switched to #417 tips to spray-apply a 4- to Protective Coatings in harsh environments with the NEW MP0/MP0R SERIES t Special measuring modes in accordance with SSPC-PA2 and IMO-PSPC t Measurement on steel and aluminium t Wear resistant probes for precise measurement even on rough surfaces t Pre-inspection of large areas with continuous scan mode t USB port for data communication (MP0R) t Customer report generation for paperless QA www.fischer-technology.com info@fischer-technology.com Coating Thickness Material Analysis Write in Reader Inquiry #135 July 2012 J www.coatingspromag.com 59 Microhardness Material Testing Quick and easy measurement of t Measurement on ships, bridges, off-shore installations, cranes, heavy machinery, construction structures and others
