COATINGSPRO EQUIPMENT 2018 19 Proper Tools continued on page 22 A substrate's cleanliness is another item that contractors need to be concerned with. Cleaning the substrate b e fo r e c o at i n g m a y h e l p a v o i d premature failures. Various companies, such as Mi-T-M, offer industrial power washers for this task. Large and handheld grinders offer the contractor options for cutting, cleaning, and/or profiling substrates, too. Bosch offers a smaller cordless angle grinder, for example. concrete," said Jeff Schlichte, paint division manager at Mi-T-M. "However, cold-water pressure washers cannot remove grease and oil effectively. To clean any surface or piece of equipment that needs to be degreased, you' ll want a hot-water pressure washer to do the job. Hot-water pressure washers also clean faster than cold-water washers in most applications." According to Schlichte, more expensive pressure washers tend to have belt-driven pumps and are powered by gas. Meanwhile, economical pressure washers are usually "direct- driven" with a pump directly coupled to the engine, along with an electric motor. Generally speaking, many complex jobs may need the additional power of a belt-driven, gas-pow- ered pressure washer, whereas electric motors can work for smaller jobs. However, one additional advan- tage to electric motors is that they do not emit fumes and produce less noise, which allow them to be used in unventilated areas or on jobsites where noise is a concern. A washer's clean- ing power is usually measured through pounds per square inch (psi), which indicates the amount of pressure a unit will create if concentrated on one square inch of surface. "e greater the psi, the better cleaning efficiency the pressure washer has," Schlichte said, adding that the Mi-T-M Work Pro 4200 is one of the company's more popular industrial pressure washers, with up to 4,200 psi (29.0 MPa) of clean- ing force. If grinding operations are required, Robert Bosch Tool Corp. and Equipment Development Co., Inc. (EDCO) are among many industry special- ists — with portability and versatility at the forefront of desired quali- ties given the diverse range and locations of jobsites encountered by many contractors. e cordless Bosch GWS18V-45PSC 4.5-inch (11.4 cm) angle grinder is one possible solution, with a brushless motor offering Aggreko North America 4540 Kendrick Plaza Dr. #100 Houston, TX 77032 (432) 530-0041 Aurand Manufacturing & Equipment Company 1210 Ellis St. Cincinnati, OH 45223 (800) 860-2872 BWAY Corp. 1515 W 22nd St., Ste. 1100 Oak Brook, IL 60523 (630) 203-4100 Carlisle Fluid Technologies 16430 N Scottsdale Rd., Ste. 450 Scottsdale, AZ 85254 (800) 992-4657 Clemco Industries Corp. 1 Cable Car Dr. Washington, MO 63090 (636) 239-0300 DeFelsko Corp. 800 Proctor Ave. Ogdensburg, NY 13669 (800) 448-3835 DESCO Manufacturing 23031 Arroyo Vista Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688 (800) 337-2648 Detroit Tarp Inc. 6760 Metroplex Dr. Romulus, MI 48174 (800) 457-5054 Doosan Portable Power 1293 Glenway Dr. Statesville, NC 28625 (704) 883-3500 Eagle Industries 5531 River Rd.
