16 NOVEMBER 2014 COATINGSPROMAG.COM TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES CSI Webinar: Reducing Condensation & Thermal Bridging With Fluid-Applied Coatings At 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Wednesday, December 3, 2014, the Construction Specifcation's Institute (CSI) is ofering a free webinar designed for contractors, architects, contract administrators, designers, owners, and specifers. Te class, which is worth 1.0 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education System (CES) credit, 1.0 Professional Development Hour (PDHs), is considered a funda- mental class. It has become more and more evident that the performance of the building envelope can be greatly affected by thermal bridging. This presentation will discuss the use of f luid-applied coatings as a new and innovative solution to minimize thermal bridging in new and exist- ing buildings. CSI will cover some key areas of concern where a f luid-applied coating can be utilized so as not to alter the structural design elements of the building. Te learning objectives for this webinar are to: • Provide novel solutions for reducing condensation within the building envelope with fluid-applied coatings; • Explain areas within a building interior and exterior where thermal bridging is a concern; • Demonstrate benefits of using a fluid-applied coating as a solution for thermal-bridging; • Discuss standards that address continuous insulation (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1-2010). Te mission of CSI is to advance building information management and Building Knowledge Improving Project Delivery education of project teams to improve facility performance. CSI is a national association of more than 13,000 volunteers, including specifers, archi- tects, engineers, contractors, facility managers, product representatives, manufacturers, owners, and others who are experts in building construc- tion and the materials used therein. For more information, contact: CSI, www.csinet.org Reader Inquiry # 4443 NRCA For Foremen Only Class Te National Roofng Contractors Association (NRC A) is one of the construction industry's most respected trade associations and the voice of roofng professionals and leading authority in the roofng industry for information, education, technol- ogy, and advocacy. Founded in 1886, NRC A is a nonproft association that represents all segments of the roofng industry, including contrac- tors, manufacturers, distributors, architects, consultants, engineers, building owners, and county, city, and state government agencies. NRC A's mission is to inform and assist the roofng industry, act as its principal advocate, and help members in serving their customers. NRC A has more than 3,500 members from all 50 states and 53 countries and is afliated with 97 local, state, regional, and international roofng contractor associations. NRC A continually strives to enhance every aspect of the roofng industry. NRC A is ofering a course called "For Foremen Only," which is a program focused on communication, leader- ship, and management skills for feld managers. Te roofng industry is flled with foremen and superintendents who are incredibly adept at expertly installing roof systems and who were promoted because of that expertise. Unfortunately, these individuals often do not possess equal levels of leader- ship, communication, and management skills needed to efectively run their crews. Tis program introduces the concept that managing, leading, and communicating are tools needed to be a truly successful middle manager. It also uses interactive exercises to practice using these new "tools" to become efec- tive crew leaders. After participating in this course, participants should be able to: • Identify when to manage and when to lead; • Identify positive and negative approaches to communication; • Recognize their communication styles; • Improve their communication skills; • Articulate specific ways to increase crew productivity; • Increase their job management skills; • Identify steps to improve their leadership skills; • Implement conflict resolution with employees in discipline situations; • Translate learning to on-the-job situations. Tis is a one-day class. It will take place 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tursday, December 11, 2014, in Fairfax, Va.
