COATINGSPRO SEPTEMBER 2015 31 of and the on-site utilities won't be in use will also make it quicker and more hassle-free for the contractors to access water and electricity services without having to vie with the on-site workforce for the use of these resources. Normally, the contractor would also have to take into account stirring up dust, germs, and debris that could unwittingly contaminate his or her client's products. Tis is another concern that is minimized during a holiday break as there will usually be fewer products onsite — or at least the contractor can expect that what is still around will be safely stored away during the holiday. Time Pressure W hile the previous points may make the project appear easy, the contrac- tor will be under pressure to make sure that he or she meets the end of holiday deadline — otherwise the plant operator risks having to extend the shutdown period for longer than origi- nally intended, a circumstance that will not be appreciated! It is important not to rush the specifcation while under this time pressure. Coatings can be critical components within a plant, just as integral as any other piece of equip- ment to the smooth running of the facility. Like the other equipment, coatings need to have the necessary qualities to suit the task, the budget, and the application criteria at hand. Te contractor needs to work closely with the coatings client and supplier to ensure that the renovation solution is ft for the purpose and meets all the necessary criteria and regula- tions. One consideration might be to use technologies or working practices that can speed up the process without compromising on quality. For example, coatings that can be quickly installed or that cure faster than alternatives may help the application team meet their deadline. But remember to take any tradeofs into consideration; the contractor might not want to use a rapid-cure coating if it comes at the expense of performance. Additionally, although some rapid-cure coatings may provide the durability, resistance, and functionality required by industrial facilities, systems such as these require specialist skills, training, and knowl- edge to ensure a quick application and high-quality fnish. Materials that can be applied on top of the existing coating may also speed up the process by neatly Contractor's Corner YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT NO FLASH RUST = A CLEAN SURFACE HoldTight®102 is the standard of performance for preventing fash rust. ◗ NO SALT.
