COATINGSPRO SEPTEMBER 2015 49 another product from Tnemec, Series 1028 Enduratone, brush- and roller-applied at 2–3 mils (50.8–76.2 microns) DFT. For the safe-touch system, which was found both inside and outside the bui ld ing , the crew insta l led only one layer of the Aerolon coating at approx imately 50 mi ls (1,270.0 microns) DFT. "It 's a ver y interesting product when you see it," Belisle said of the Aerolon. "It 's a 5 -ga l lon [18.9 L] bucket, and it weighs 8 to 10 pounds [3.6 or 4.5 kg ]. It 's like Fluf fer nutter — rea l ly, rea l ly light acr ylic mater ia l." In fact, br ushing wou ld have been impossible, as far as he was concer ned. " You' d never be able to br ush it. You cou ldn't bui ld mi ls; it wou ld drag out." T his was the crew's f irst time using the product, and because it 's so d if ferent f rom what they're used to using , they were g iven a sma l l k it to test in the shop and then in the f ield. Just like for the cold pipes, these were a lso coated using a pneumatic hopper g un and then f inished w ith a 2- to 3 -mi l (50.8 –76.2 microns) DFT layer of Enduratone. Dur ing the spray-application, the crew needed only t wo crew members and ha lf-face respirators w ith organic vapor car tr idges by 3M. History Repeating Regardless of the challenges, the John W. Egan Co. crew's work seems to have pleased their client. "Te John W. Egan Company is a very experienced applicator with a long history of applying Tnemec coating systems," Woessner said. "Teir personnel have a lot of technical expertise in a variety of specialty coatings. Te crew picked up this application very easily." Te crew completed the entire project in just over one month and has been asked back for other work since then. "I've been out there a few times doing other work," Belisle said. "Everything seems to be performing very well. Te icing issues are no longer icing. Te hot pipes, even at the peak of their use when they used to be very hot, are approachable. You can put your hand right on it. Tey feel warm, obviously, but they won't cause any hurt to anybody. [Te client] has been very happy with the performance and the completed job." CP According to Robert "Junior" Belisle, "The icing issues are no longer icing. The hot pipes, even at the peak of their use when they used to be very hot, are approachable."
