Cover the Bet Even without a frm diagnosis in hand, Desco knew they needed to cover the casino's bet. Reasor huddled with Key Resin Company fooring specialist Jim Porter to come up with a sure-fre way to tame the cracks. "We had to somehow isolate the substrate cracks to prevent them from transferring back up through the coating system — no matter what," said Reasor. "We proposed beginning with Key Resin's 580 Flexible Membrane." Key #580 is a liquid-applied, urethane-mod if ied epox y that resists crack ing caused by hor izonta l substrate movement, accord ing to the company's product data sheet. T he t wo -par t mater ia l is blended at slow speeds, poured, and spread w ith notched squeegees or trowels to achieve approx imately 40 mi ls (1,016.0 microns) dr y f i lm thick ness (DFT ) in a single lif t. T he plan was to top the 580 w ith t wo trowel-and-rol l lif ts of Key #511 Epox y Binder/Gla ze, tota l- ing approx imately 40 mi ls (1,016.0 microns) DFT. T he 511 wou ld then receive a single d ip -and-rol l pass of Key #467-HS Urethane Topcoat at 3 –5 mi ls (76.2–127.0 microns) DFT to prov ide chemica l and wear resistance. With more than 2,200 slot machines raking in the dough, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the stakes couldn't get much higher.
