88 SEPTEMBER 2015 COATINGSPROMAG.COM only 150 watts of power. Tis explo- sion-proof LED light is attached to a 21" (53.3 cm) supporting plate, which allows the light fxture to hang down 12" (30.5 cm) inside the tank or railcar while the supporting plate rests on the lip of a man-way opening. Tis mount- ing provides an extremely versatile lighting option for those working in confned spaces, such as railcars, storage tanks, and other locations where entry is through a 21" (53.3 cm) manhole opening. "Tis new tank light ofers excellent convenience and efectiveness with a 21" [53.3 cm] manhole mounting support bracket that eliminates the need for special mounting fxtures or cumber- some string light systems," said Rob Bresnahan with Larsonelectronics.com. However, in a burning building, as the temperature rises to around 200° C (392° F) and beyond, Charmor reacts with other ingredients in the paint formulation to form an insulating carbon foam, or char, that expands to become several centimeters thick. Tis insulates the steel from the heat of the fames and so prevents or signifcantly delays it from collapsing. As a result, building occupants have more time to evacuate the building. Intumescent coatings containing Charmor provide an alterna- tive to other fre protection systems for steel structures, such as cementitious systems or gypsum board. Te structures weigh much less and, by being able to use an aesthetic coating rather than a substantial and aesthetically unappeal- ing cladding system, architects can design buildings that combine improved safety with visual appeal. Charmor is available for water-borne and solvent- borne coating formulations. Tere are four diferent grades with diferent levels of water solubility and two diferent particle sizes: 40 and 15 microns (1.6 and 0.6 mils). "We've launched a new generation of treated Specialty Carbon Black pigments, which enable formulators to meet performance requirements across a wide range of coatings applications," said Tom Papasso, marketing manager, Coatings and Special Applications, Americas. "Te frst two grades that beneft from our new after treatment capabilities are COLOUR BLACK FW 255 and SPECIAL BLACK 40." COLOUR BLACK FW 255 Carbon Black pigment, the frst launch of this new product generation, sets new benchmarks for high jetness, coloristic performance, and compatibility with both water-borne and solvent-borne systems. SPECIAL BLACK 40 sets a new standard for dispersibility and stability in industrial applications. It works in all coating formulations — solvent-borne, water-borne, high solids, and powder coatings — providing formulators with enormous fexibility. COLOUR BLACK 171 is for water-borne and powder coatings, and XPB 545 is an ideal grade for conductive coatings.
