COATINGSPRO MAY 2016 27 hard to remember how important strategy is when Tweeting and liking Facebook posts. A good practice, then, is to have your company's attitude in mind when using social media as a company representative. Before Tweeting or liking a post, briefly consider: "Does this align with my company's attitude?" If it doesn't, rework the post. This way, every social media interaction drives home the intended, strategic idea. Great examples of this can be seen on several coatings contrac- tor's Facebook accounts. On one in particular, all of the posts seem to operate under the idea that commu- nity is important — whether the company is supporting customers via their services or the customers are supporting the company's various philanthropic efforts. Scrolling through, I get the sense that this particular company is filled with kind, well-intentioned people — another value I can get behind. Act Now! If you do nothing else today, think about how attitude plays into your company's branding. Tis is something every employee can do. It's also something you can instantly act on. Go ahead and change your voice mail prompt. Add a tag line to your signature. Commit to Facebooking strategically once a week. Every efort counts and builds your company's brand, so you may as well start now!
