BY CLAIRE TRAGESER Resort Town: SPF on a Luxury Condo in Aspen T he Aspen A lps Condominiums sit on six acres (24,281 m²) of land in the heart of Aspen, Colo. As the rental property's name implies, the Aspen mountains are right nearby, including 11,211-foot (3.4 km) Aspen Mountain, famous for its skiing and gondola. Te complex has many diferent units, some with up to four bedrooms, expansive grounds, and the ability to ski right up to the condos. Built in 1963, Aspen A lps Condominiums were one of the frst condominium complexes in Colorado. At the complex, Building 700 sits on the highest ground, with the best views of the mountains and the city of Aspen below. But that building also needed work. "It was an older roof, and they knew they've needed to replace it for a number of years," said Pat Kohls. He's run Twin Cities, Minn.-based Kohls Foam Systems with his brother John since 1987. Te two brothers and their roofng crews special- ize in spray polyurethane foam, or SPF, roofng systems for commercial and industrial roofs. Tat includes fat roofs, metal roofs, and traditional and irregularly shaped roofs. Kohls had worked with Aspen A lps Condominiums in the past, at least two or three jobs by his count. He had worked to insulate underneath their parking garage and tennis court area, and he had applied SPF under housing for employees to take care of a moisture issue. He'd also done two other roofng projects on condos on the rental property. Kohls had a good track record with the client, so when they needed work done on Building 700, they turned to him. In fact, they turned to him a while back for this very job. "We gave them a bid several years ago, but they said we had to hold tight," Kohls said. Ten, the perfect time arrived for Kohls to do the job. "Tis year, they had to redo the chimneys on top of the roof," he said. "Tey knew they had to do chimney work, actually, when I was originally looking at the roof. I told them they had chimney work to do, so they fgured it was best to do the two jobs alongside each other." ROOF SPF SILICONE
