12 JULY 2016 COATINGSPROMAG.COM TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES Construction Quality Management for Contractors Te U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) requires all contractors performing construction for them to comply with the Contractor Quality Control (CQC) provisions in their contracts. In the early development of the CQC system, there was considerable misunderstanding as to what was required and who was responsible for it. In cooper- ation with the construction industry, the Corps developed a training course entitled "Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM)." Te purpose of this course is to familiarize all quality management personnel with the Corps construction quality management policies and procedures. Te course details the requirements of the government and contractor personnel assigned to the project and the reasons for those requirements. Te efectiveness of the CQM system is enhanced when all personnel are aware of their responsibilities and the reasons for them. To ensure the success of the CQC system, every Corps construction contract stipulates that the contractor's quality control representative is required to have this training. Tis course is ofered throughout the year by many Corps ofces across the nation. Te certifcate issued upon successful completion of the CQM class is good for fve years. Te training is formatted into the following modules of instruction that may include class discussion and video presentation: • Module 1: Introduction • Module 2: Contractor's Review • Module 3: Quality Management Planning • Module 4: Post-Award/Preconstruction Conferences and the Coordination Meeting (Mutual Understanding Meeting-Navy) • Module 5: Submittals • Module 6: Quality Management for Construction Projects • Module 7: Making the System Work • Module 8: Quality Control System (QCS) and Resident Management System (RMS) • Module 9: NAVFAC'S Web-Based Construction Management System (WebCM) On August 9–10, 2016, the Louisville, Ky., location will ofer the course through Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC).
