TECH TRICKS The Cure For Off-Ratio Blisters W Off-ratio blisters can add time and frustration to an otherwise perfect project — and they can happen to the best of contractors. One contractor, with years of sprayed plural component system experience, offers the following solutions: "If the blistering originates from the A-side, meaning that it is ISO-rich, ISO has crystallized inside the blister. These blisters can be cut, scraped, or ground off and simply recoating should not be a problem. But if the blistering is B-side — meaning that it is poly-rich — there is a high amount of poly-resin imbedded in the coating. This means that once the blister is removed, the area will probably blister again. The fix? Remove the blister. Clean the area. Mix approximately 15% ISO and 85% solvent (MEK or acetone) and brush this solution over the cleaned area. This will cure any remaining B residue, allowing the surface to be recoated." Once your equipment is back on-ratio, you'll be back on track!
