And although the project was scheduled to begin in October during the resort's "slow" season, the job would have to be completed during the winter and spring, meaning that weather could be a factor. To help them find a long-term, yet cost-effective solution to their roofing problem, Manuel Chapa, head of engineering at Port Royal, contacted Commercial Roofing LLC, an Albuquerque, New Mexico-based roofing contractor with a solid reputation and years of experience in the commercial roofing industry. Commercial's long years in business had given them plenty of experience not only in working on roofs in less-than-ideal climatic conditions, but also around the public. THE SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT GREEN According to Joe Johnson, operations manager for Commercial Roofing, resort officials were willing to give Commercial full control over the material selection, with one stipulation. "The owners really liked the green color of their existing roof, and they were pretty adamant about replacing it with a product of a similar color," commented Johnson. After visiting the site and seeing the damaged rooftop firsthand, Johnson opted to re-coat the metal with Roof Mate and Acryclad, two premium roof coatings manufactured by United Coatings.
