we'd have to shut down or restrict activities. We knew going
in that a lot of times we wouldn't have much advance notice of
arrivals. e project also required under-platform scaffolding,
environmental containment netting, floating platforms so we
could work on pilings close to the waterline, a mobile desaliniza-
tion unit for fresh water, and a very large portable water tank."
e crew decided in advance that to make this deadline,
they'd stay overnight at a local hotel, work six days a week, and
log in 10-hour days. So while project general contractor Island
International Inc. lined up a PureSafe mobile desalinization
unit, A lpine began ferrying equipment out to the platform. e
barge took two hours each way when the weather was good.
"We set aside work on railings, toe boards, pipes, valves, bollards, and equipment bases for fuel offloading days," said Ofsharick. "By doing so,
we could stay out of the way and not lose too much production."
