COATINGSPRO MARCH 2017 17 N ACE International, the worldwide corrosion authority, recently announced a new slate of officers for the 2017‒2018 term. NACE's nominating committee confirmed its selection last spring. Terms for the selected candidates will begin March 31, 2017, the day following the close of the NACE Annual Conference and Exposition, CORROSION 2017, in New Orleans, Louisiana. e new officers shall be as follows: President Samir Degan, Vice President Jeffrey Didas, and Treasurer Michael Ames. Samir Degan, managing director at Mumbai, India-based Osnar Paints and Contracts, will serve as presi- dent of NACE's board of direc- tors. In his 22 years as a NACE member, Degan has actively served in multi- ple leadership positions locally, nationally, and inter- nationally. Most recently, Degan served on the board as area director of the East Asia Pacific (EAP) region (2011‒2014), as area coordination committee chair (2013‒2014), and as vice chair (2012‒2013). He also served on other committees related to standards, public policy, and education. Degan has been on the section governing board for 15 years and has chaired NACE's CORCON conference, where he gained support of government agencies in the United States and India. From 2008 to 2014, Degan served in leadership roles for the EAP's area committee, where he helped diversify area activities beyond CORCON to hosting numerous courses, Bring on the Heat conferences, the CORSYM (Corrosion Prevention Symposium) student conference, and more. Degan is certified in NACE Coating Inspector Program Levels 1 and 2 and holds a B.S. degree in chemis- try from St. Xavier's College, an M.S. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Bombay-Institute of Science, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Michigan. Jeffrey L. Didas, senior corrosion engineer with Matcor, Inc., will be NACE's vice president. Didas has been a member of NACE for more than 40 years and served on the NACE board as treasurer (2009‒2013). In addition to this post, Didas served simultaneously as the NACE Foundation's treasurer. From 1996 to present, he has worked on NACE's committees for finance, policy, activities, public affairs, nominating, and area coordination. Other associ- ation positions held by Didas include board director (2006‒2009) and NACE Institute treasurer (2012‒present). He served in leadership positions of the Saudi Arabia section (1992-1995), the West Virginia section (1997-2000), and the Virginia Old Dominion section (2002-2011). His Eastern Area service includes treasurer, secretary, vice chair, and chair (2003‒2007, inclusively). Didas has been active within the technical committee community since the late 1990s and holds several NACE certifications, such as Corrosion Specialist, Cathodic Protection Specialist, and Coating Inspector. He has published numerous conference papers and presented oral presentations at many area conferences and short courses. Didas earned his A.S. degree with a focus in industrial electronics from Springfield Technical Community College and B.S. degree in electrical/electronic engineer- ing from omas Edison State College. Michael Ames, director of techni- cal operations at Boerne, Texas-based Chapman Engineering, will serve his first year of a two-year term as NACE treasurer. Ames has been a NACE member for more than 30 years. He was founder of the NACE Gas Capitol section in Liberal, Kansas, where he served as chair (1988‒1990) and trustee (1990‒1993). He has held all leadership positions of the U.S. Central Area (2002‒2013), including served as director (2010‒2013). He has been a member of 18+ technical commit- tees over 22 years of involvement with NACE. Ames currently serves on the finance committee at NACE and the policy committee for the NACE Institute. Ames' other committee service includes member area operations, awards, and nominating. He has also presented and published numerous articles and presentations. His academic background includes an A.S. degree in business administration from Seward County Community College, an A.S. degree in mid-management from Amarillo College, and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Trinity University.
