According to Bloodworth, that made the blasting stage "a lot more controllable, a lot easier to make sure you weren't using too much media." With 192,000 lbs. (87.1 metric tons) of abrasive, not to mention 1,000 gallons (3,785.4 L) of primer and 10,000+ gallons (37,854.1 L) of polyurea, they had a lot riding on their calculations! Using Clemco dry blasters and 3,000-pound (1.4 metric tons) super sacks of coarse coal slag from Black Beauty, the crew worked over four days to create a surface profile. Because what went in must have come out, the crew also relied on a Bobcat and forklift to remove any and all spent abrasives and put them back into their super sacks to dispose of properly. ey also washed down the surface before moving on to the coatings, which were next on the punch list. For the coatings, the crew divvied the surface to even smaller sections: 1,100 square feet (102.2 m²) each. at helped to match each area with the 100 gallons (378.5 L) of material to cover the concrete at the right rate. Unfortunately, the delay in getting the basin clean pushed the project into the shor ter and colder days of fall — challenging for coatings applicators when atmospheric conditions can affect the materials. Once they got to the coatings portion of the job, they got right to work on surface prep. That included pressure washing with 4,000 psi (27.6 MPa) machines, scarifying, and abrasive blasting.
