"You're 3 feet [0.9 m] above sea level, so that's why the moisture proof had to be used," he continued. at layer, Sikafloor 1610 primer, which was applied to an average of 12 mils (304.8 microns), was necessary even in the cooler month of March when the project took place. e crew allowed the primer to cure overnight before returning the next day to apply a layer of Sikafloor 161. e crew laid down that white coating to an average thickness of 10–12 mils (254.0–304.8 microns). Into the wet layer, they broad- cast Torginol paint chips to rejection. e next day, the crew vacuumed up any excess chips and then applied another layer of the Sikafloor 161, but this time in clear. Into that layer, the crew broadcast another layer of chips. Again, the excess chips were vacuumed up the next day before the crew "grouted " the floor using Sikafloor 225. at was applied at 12–16 mils (304.8– 406.4 microns). e final layer, Sikafloor 340, was laid down at an average of 6 mils (152.4 microns). "e chips help a lot because the chips can hide some things with the white [concrete]. But they also chose some chips that almost blended with the white. So with all of that said, we had to really watch the application to make sure it was done exactly properly so you wouldn't see any roller lines or trowel lines or squeegee lines," Verry explained. In total, the system covered the 24,000 square feet (2,229.7 m²) of the garage and elevator and included six steps. A ll layers were applied with a squeegee and then backrolled. Bon Voyage! roughout the job, the crew worked around the in-house maintenance workers, but according to Verry, that wasn't a problem. e hardest part of the job was when they needed to coat the inside of the elevator, since that caused the most disruption to the tenants. Before heading back north, the crew applied white and blue striping around the garage. "ey not only wanted just your normal striping in a parking garage, but they wanted directional arrows that were 10-feet [3.1 m] long with radii put in, so strip- ing took a little longer than normal," Verry said of the client. e crew designed a template and used it along with rollers to apply the arrows around the floor. And with that, Desco Floor Systems' high-profile clients were given a high-performance coating solution — a perfect place for the tenants to start their daily excursions. Venture on, indeed. CP The crew keyed around drains to encourage drainage. According to Desco Flooring's Co-Owner Mark Verry, the Indiana-based crew members "spent all their time working."
