Sample boards are similar to mock-ups, often assigned by designers and architects, except that they are undertaken voluntarily and are used to help a project owner who doesn't necessarily know what type of coating system he or she wants. On a piece of cement board or in an inconspicuous area of the actual project site, create several small (e.g., 4" x 4", 10.2 cm x 10.2 cm) coating samples with varying colors, textures, levels of gloss, clear coats, and slip-resistant additives to show the customer: A) what you have to offer; and B) that you really care about them as a customer. Begin by telling a potential client that you offer this service, and email him or her some color charts and pictures of different systems.
