18 JANUARY 2018 COATINGSPROMAG.COM D an Adley, CEO of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania- based coatings and corrosion engineering and inspection company KTA-Tator, Inc., was recently named director of strate- gic planning to the 2017‒18 NACE International board of directors. Adley, who has been a NACE member since 1998, has been a student and practitioner of strategic planning throughout much of his 40-year business career. In 2013, Adley was invited to work with NACE's board to facilitate their strategic planning initiatives. In recent years, the board has adopted various changes to its processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. One of those proposed changes was to create an at-large director position if, and when, the board identified a need for specialized expertise. At a board meeting on Sept. 28, 2017, a motion was made to create that position, and a second nomination was made to place Adley in the role. "NACE International is the preeminent community for disseminating knowl- edge, enhancing skills, and expanding the professional networks of corrosion control and asset protection profession- als worldwide," Adley said. "It has been a privilege to work with the board for over three years in furtherance of their mission to equip society to protect people, assets, and the environment from the adverse effects of corrosion," Adley added. "I am humbled by this nomination and honored to work with an exceptional board of directors for the preeminent global corrosion society." In this new role, Adley is respon- sible for leading the board's strategic planning process to improve the deliv- ery of all NACE programs, products, and services (PPS). In doing so, he will oversee initial implementation of best practice guidelines for strategic planning and a PPS portfolio assessment process. Adley will also be called on to facil- itate and oversee the strategic planning process across 15 business units, as well as work to develop the depth and breadth of talent among all levels of plan facilita- tors while helping the board achieve its goal of operational excellence. Other members of the current board of directors include NACE CEO Bob Chalker, Past President Sandy Williamson, President Samir Degan, Vice President Jeffrey Didas, Treasurer Michael Ames, and Directors Lindsay Enloe, omas Ladwein, Darby Howard, Mohammed A l-Subaie, Richard Eckert, Toyoji Takeuchi, Eric Langelund, Chris Fowler, Debra Boisvert, Andrew Haiko, Keith Perkins, Cris Conner, and Michael O'Brien. NACE was established in 1943 as the "National Association of Corrosion Engineers." e founding engineers were originally part of a regional group associated with the oil and gas indus- try. Since then, NACE has become the global leader in developing corrosion prevention and control standards, certification, and education. Today, the association (renamed NACE International—e Corrosion Society in 1993) has four areas and 80 sections in North America, four interna- tional areas with 62 sections, and a total of nearly 36,000 members from 130 countries.
