52 JANUARY 2018 COATINGSPROMAG.COM "ose were just awnings off the building," Cleavenger said. "ey're aesthetics. is was in Colorado, next to a lake, so it was about looking good rather than functionality. It's like having a patio. e canopies weren't leaking, per se, because there was nothing underneath the deck to trap anything. ey're basically just metal-framed canopies with roof material on them, and I needed to make them the same color." Teamwork the Priority For Cleavenger, perhaps the most essential part of the job was the selection of vendors and the role each could play alongside the contractor in the application process. "is dealership was surrounded by very expensive motor- cycles," Cleavenger said. "Overspray was a definite concern. is was also an active dealership with customers coming in and out all day, and the contractor could not disrupt the business." As a result, Cleavenger wanted to use vendors and manufac- turers he could trust for application support. For this job, he went with the Enduris high-solids silicone roof coating system from GE for the roof itself, a Kynar primer and finish coat system from Everest Systems Co. for the canopies, and various tools from Graco for the spray application of both. "Both GE and Everest have the best service to a contractor having technical questions," Cleavenger said. "ey have answers for questions that we, as contractors, have when using these coatings. With Graco, their technical support division is unsurpassed by giving us information about the pumps and the different types of things we need to do to use those machines." Representatives from GE, Everest, and Graco were all present One reason these systems were chosen was because of aesthetics. The crew coated the roof with a tinted high-solids silicone from GE. The canopies were also coated with Everest's Kynar primer and finish coats.
